HAPPY DAYS: Left to right, Bailey Ryder, 7, Cooper Emmerton, 3, Charlotte Ryder, 5, and Annabel Brown, 5, enjoy the carols. Carols by Candlelight last night.SANTA and some of Australia’s hottest young musicians added their voice to the throng of 15,000 people at the annual Speers Point Carols by Candlelight last night.
Drizzling rain and impending storm clouds couldn’t quell the singing voices of the huge crowd who packed the park to take in the market stalls, listen to the carols and watch the fireworks display light up the night sky.
Lake Macquarie City Council Cultural Development and Events Officer Rebecca Prince said the event was a huge success.
‘‘We got a little bit wet during the day, but most of the rain managed to stay away,’’ she said.
‘‘The numbers were down a bit on previous years, but we were pretty pleased considering the weather would have kept some people away.’’
Newcastle X Factor contestants Luke and Joel O’Dea took to the stage to sing carols with Santa Claus himself and another reality music star, Australian Idol’s Wes Carr.
There was also a visit from The Beatles tribute band The Beatle Boys, who rewrote some of the band’s most famous songs to include Christmas caroling lyrics.
