The accident at Adamstown. Picture by Brock PerksTRAFFIC around the already slow Adamstown rail gates was brought to a standstill today after a car accident that put two people in hospital.
Police and emergency services were called to St James Road about 12.15pm after calls that a pedestrian had been knocked down and a person was trapped following a two car accident.
Police Inspector Michael Gorman said the accident wasn’t as serious as first thought but one of the vehicles had stopped in the middle of St James Road and was causing major traffic delays.
‘‘We received numerous calls about the crash, some stating that a pedestrian had been hit and a person was trapped but they weren’t the circumstances,’’ he said.
‘‘But because St James Road is single lane road it really slowed traffic down.
‘‘The majority of the delay came from waiting for the tow truck.’’
Two people were taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries.
